The Mobius Energy – Savant partnership advances scalable, compliant refrigerated transport solutions contributing to South Africa’s climate commitments while driving meaningful reductions in emissions across the logistics sector.
P4G has awarded the partnership about US $310,000 in grant funding.
The transport refrigeration industry faces increasing pressure to transition from diesel to electric solutions due to environmental regulations and corporate sustainability commitments. However, existing electric alternatives, such as plug-in electric trucks, are costly, heavy and impractical for fleet operators. Mobius Energy offers a cost-effective and scalable solution, leveraging advances in battery storage, solar power and power electronics to electrify inefficient energy sources in commercial vehicles.
Mobius Energy has developed a solar-electric refrigeration system for commercial transport vehicles. This innovation replaces fossil fuel-powered refrigeration units, reducing fuel consumption by 30%–60% per vehicle and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 25–40 tons per year. The technology provides fleet owners with significant financial benefits, saving $5,400–$13,000 annually in diesel costs while maintaining a payback period of fewer than three years. The startup’s vehicles have already logged over 100,000 on-road hours and saved more than 400 tons of CO2 emissions, gaining traction with logistics giants like AP Moller, DP World’s Imperial Logistics and Lactalis.
During the P4G funding period, the Mobius Energy – Savant partnership will:
Additionally, Marketdoor will play a key role in accelerating Mobius Energy’s go-to-market strategy and geographic expansion. As a structured entrepreneurship development program, Marketdoor will provide the foundational support needed for Mobius to scale rapidly, become sustainable and attract further investment.
To date, Mobius Energy has advanced its certification, compliance and safety standards by submitting all regulatory and technical requirements that are relevant to the National Standards certifications, including SANS 10142, 20010, and 60309-4. Additionally, the retrospective issuance of Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) for all installations, as well as compliance with selected self-adopted and declared specifications, including IEC 60364 (various parts) and IEC 61643 (various parts) have been submitted.
In parallel, Mobius is finalizing an agreement with Integrity Inspection Services and Consultants to secure CE and UKCA certifications for entry into the European and UK markets, and a prototype is being shipped to the UK for real-world performance trials.
Mobius achieved strong commercial traction, securing multiple high-value orders that contribute to its revenue targets for 2025–2026. At the same time, Mobius’ leadership team is expanding outreach across South Africa, East Africa and the UK to drive new client acquisition and explore market gaps where existing competitor solutions have struggled.
In addition, Mobius is engaging national stakeholders to increase awareness of technologies that can support accelerated implementation of South Africa’s National Climate Change Act on emissions reduction in the transport sector.
The partnership comprises the following partners: Mobius Energy (lead business partner); Savant (lead administrative partner); Marketdoor (capacity building partner).
