The Spora EV – Su-re.co partnership is building a sustainable logistics ecosystem in peri-urban Jakarta by piloting electric motorcycle fleets that cut emissions, lower costs and improve courier safety. Through startup capacity building, green jobs creation and policy advocacy, the project offers a cleaner, more efficient alternative to conventional logistics providers while supporting Indonesia’s national climate goals.
P4G has awarded the partnership with about US $300,000 in grant funding.
Indonesia’s logistics sector is facing growing challenges from high fuel costs, congestion and rising emissions. Motorcycles, the backbone of first- and last-mile delivery in cities like Jakarta, are largely fossil-fuel powered, contributing to urban air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Existing EV options are limited, with high upfront costs, weak after-sales support and insufficient charging solutions slowing adoption. Spora EV and su-re.co are addressing these gaps by developing a holistic, scalable electric mobility ecosystem tailored to Indonesia’s logistics sector.
At the core of the solution is the Spora EV’s sister company, MIMO, a modular, long-range electric motorcycle engineered for cargo delivery and family transport. Built for comfort, safety and heavy logistical loads, MIMO integrates into a Fleet-as-a-Service (FaaS) model that lowers adoption barriers for couriers and logistics companies. By offering flexible rental options, the partnership reduces ownership risks and supports small businesses in making the transition to clean mobility. A digital logbook system will also track vehicle use, performance and impact, ensuring evidence-based, decision-making for scaling.
The partnership will optimize the technical aspects and conduct a comprehensive study assessing market readiness and user needs. This will be complemented by regulatory and policy studies to develop actionable policy briefs. Additionally, the partnership will implement capacity building initiatives, leveraging Spora's robust logbook system for digital monitoring.
Pilot projects with logistics partners will validate the technical and financial viability of the solution in peri-urban Jakarta, providing real-world insights on fleet management, charging infrastructure and after-sales service models. These pilots will demonstrate cost efficiency, safety improvements and emission reductions, laying the foundation for attracting private investment and scaling nationally.
Spora will leverage its ‘Spora Institute’ to deliver training programs to upskill technicians, while traditional workshops are transformed into “social hubs” that combine EV servicing with complementary businesses to sustain local income. The partnership will work with government stakeholders to shape enabling policies, including retrofit regulations, EV standards and related workforce development
By combining innovation in vehicle design, service delivery and workforce development, the partnership aims to create an inclusive, low-carbon logistics ecosystem that advances Indonesia’s sustainability goals and provides a scalable model for other emerging markets.
The partnership comprises the following partners: Spora EV (lead business partner); Su-re.co (lead administrative partner).
