The Parsons Kinetics – ACOSOL partnership will scale Parsons Kinetics’ Bioseed wind turbines for distributed clean energy in rural Colombia. Parsons Kinetics’ Bioseed turbine, a patented low-wind-speed design, offers a practical solution to replace fossil-based off-grid supply, reducing emissions while enabling rural electrification and inclusive economic growth. By offering a replicable model, this partnership empowers rural communities, enhances clean energy access and contributes to Colombia’s just energy transition.
P4G has awarded the partnership with about US $260,000 in grant funding.
The Parsons Kinetics – ACOSOL partnership will scale Parsons Kinetics’ Bioseed wind turbines for distributed clean energy in rural Colombia. With over 1.9 million hectares of land experiencing moderate wind speeds (4–8 m/s), rural communities face untapped opportunities for decarbonization but remain underserved due to a lack of tailored technologies and viable business models. Parsons Kinetics’ Bioseed turbine, a patented low-wind-speed design, offers an affordable solution to replace fossil-based off-grid supply, reducing emissions while enabling rural electrification and inclusive economic growth.
Parsons Kinetics is a Colombian company pioneering small-scale, low-speed wind turbines inspired by the natural aerodynamics of the seeds of the Varasanta tree. The Bioseed turbines operate efficiently in moderate wind conditions where conventional turbines underperform. Beyond hardware, the company is building a digital marketplace that connects landowners, investors and energy buyers. This platform standardizes feasibility studies, contracts and financial models, making distributed wind energy bankable, scalable and transparent for investors and rural stakeholders alike.
During the partnership period, Parsons Kinetics will accelerate Bioseed’s certification, strengthen investment readiness and scale distributed wind energy in Colombia. The partnership will focus on certification, pilot deployment, regulatory engagement and business model validation. Demonstration projects will showcase technical feasibility, financial viability and environmental impact. By securing Colombian standards like Reglamento Técnico de Instalaciones Eléctricas (RETIE), a regulatory framework for the electrical industry in Colombia, the project will build credibility and open the door for investment. A digital platform will further de-risk projects by providing standardized legal, financial and technical templates, while ensuring revenue-sharing models that directly benefit rural landowners.
ACOSOL will advocate for stable regulations and high technical standards. With deep expertise in policy engagement, capacity building and advancing clean energy adoption, ACOSOL will help position small-scale wind solutions alongside solar in national frameworks. The organization’s strong connections with government, industry and communities make it a key ally in accelerating policy inclusion, certification and awareness of distributed wind energy solutions.
By reducing technical and regulatory risks, the partnership will unlock capital from climate-focused investors and development funds, expand rural electrification and reduce emissions. The partnership offers a replicable model that empowers rural communities, enhances clean energy access and contributes to Colombia’s just energy transition.
The partnership comprises the following partners: Parsons Kinetics (lead business partner); ACOSOL (lead administrative partner).
