About

The SolrBoost – TruePoint Center South Africa partnership will integrate installers, asset owners and utilities into one digital platform to advance renewable energy adoption in South Africa. The partnership will enhance South Africa’s energy reliability and create a replicable model for emerging markets across Africa and Southeast Asia.

Investing in Impact

P4G has awarded the partnership with about US $245,000 in grant funding.

South Africa faces one of the world’s most severe energy crises, with frequent power outages and heavy dependence on coal-fired power plants. In 2023, the country experienced electricity cuts on more than 280 days, disrupting economic activity and livelihoods. Coal still accounts for roughly 80% of South Africa’s electricity generation, making it a leading per capita carbon emitter. While solar adoption has grown, most available platforms are international, hardware-based and limited to passive monitoring, failing to provide actionable optimization for local conditions. SolrBoost addresses this gap with a cloud-based, hardware-agnostic platform designed for South Africa’s unique grid challenges.

SolrBoost is a South African technology company pioneering Africa’s solar optimization market. Its platform integrates monitoring, performance optimization and financial incentives, enabling installers, utilities and asset owners to maximize energy efficiency and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. By using AI-driven diagnostics, tariff optimization and carbon credit monetization, SolrBoost transforms solar systems from static assets into high-performing, financially viable infrastructure. This locally developed solution ensures affordability, adaptability and scalability across residential, commercial and industrial users.

SolrBoost’s business model is tailored to its core customer segments:

  • Installers subscribe via a tiered Solar-as-a-Service (SaaS) plan with access to resale incentives and white labeling, which allows them to rebrand and market the solution as their own.
  • Commercial and residential asset owners are billed per kWp, gaining access to performance analytics and energy cost optimization tools.
  • Utilities engage through bespoke contracts based on Operations and Maintenance (O&M) savings and portfolio impact.

During the partnership period, SolrBoost will scale its digital ecosystem for renewable energy adoption. SolrBoost seeks to gain 400 active customers across installers, asset owners and utilities within its first year. Grant funding and technical assistance will enable proof of concept, enhance ESG integration and attract private capital.

Long-term, SolrBoost will expand its smart utility ecosystem, enable small Engineering, Procurement and Construction firms (EPCs) to offer professional monitoring services, deepen its commercial asset owner tools and localize the platform for emerging solar markets across Africa and Southeast Asia.

TruePoint Center South Africa will provide capacity building, investment readiness support and connections to investors and policymakers, strengthening SolrBoost’s ability to scale across South Africa and beyond. Together, the partnership aims to empower EPCs with professional-grade monitoring tools, support utilities with portfolio-wide optimization, and deliver tangible cost savings to households and businesses.

By reducing emissions, enhancing energy reliability and creating green jobs, the partnership will advance South Africa’s climate and energy transition goals while setting a replicable model for emerging markets across Africa and Southeast Asia.

The partnership comprises the following partners: SolrBoost (lead business partner); TruePoint Center South Africa (lead administrative partner).
