Food Loss and Waste Reduction
Completed
Start-up
Indonesia Food Loss and Waste (FLW) Action initiated a cross-sector program to reduce food loss and waste in Indonesia by 50% by 2030.
P4G provided this partnership with US $100,000 in catalytic grant funding.
In this partnership, the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), initiated by the Business and Sustainable Development Commission (BSDC) and the New Climate Economy, came together to develop food loss and waste action plans with three companies in the dairy, palm oil and seed industries.
The FLW Action partnership continues to work with companies and government agencies to reduce food loss and waste. The partnership worked in alignment with Indonesia’s Low-Carbon Development Initiative, which aims to maintain economic growth, alleviate poverty and meet development targets, while simultaneously achieving Indonesia’s climate objectives.
P4G assembled a meeting between the partnership and the Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia (BAPPENAS) that led to support for the next phase of the partnership, which was scaled up through FLAWLESS, and strengthened the focus on food loss and waste in their planning. P4G also sparked a knowledge sharing opportunity with another start-up partnership, Comprometido con la Comida, on food loss and waste in Mexico to scale and replicate the work for greater impact.
