The ReservoAir – Kopernik partnership will scale PoreBlock, a porous paving block engineered to absorb water 100 times faster than conventional pavers and strengthen financing mechanisms for water conservation in Indonesia.
P4G has awarded the partnership with about US $358,000 in grant funding.
Indonesia faces a water resilience crisis with only 12% of the country’s water safely managed. The country also experiences regular flooding in addition to other climate hazards that threaten sanitation and agricultural systems.
ReservoAir is an Indonesian startup that has developed PoreBlock, a porous paver that absorbs water 100x faster than conventional pavers, reduces the run-off load on the drainage system, and reduces the risk of flooding. ReservoAir had already installed more than 13,000 m2 of PoreBlock across schools, residences, parking spaces and mosques and is ready to expand its use across the country.
The business model for expansion comprises building partnerships with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to decentralize production, increase monthly production capacity and reduce shipping costs. In addition to this expansion ReservoAir will also grow its consulting services for flood risk management and mitigation measures such as rainwater harvesting designs and infiltration wells.
ReservoAir is partnering with Kopernik to scale the Water Balance Action Program, which focuses on addressing water conservation challenges through innovative products and flexible financing.
Kopernik is a research and development lab testing and improving solutions to overcome Indonesia’s social and environmental challenges. The lab will help ReservoAir with product trials, community outreach and the identification of relevant OEMs for scaling the startup.
During the partnership period, ReservoAir aims to raise about US $300,000 in investment, install more than 10 infiltration wells, launch an OEM in Bali, and reintroduce more than 24,000 m3 of water into aquifers.
The partnership comprises the following partners: ReservoAir (lead business partner); Yayasan Kopernik (lead administrative partner).
