Due to a financing gap in the water sector for many emerging economies, providing safe water to growing populations is a challenge for water utilities. Ultimately, this results in an access gap – exacerbating water stress in these communities. Conventional financing mechanisms and infrastructure cannot keep up with the pace of growth. There is a need for innovative solutions in this space.
iW+ provides a solution with pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) options including household meters that can secure regular payments from subscribers. By giving household residents access to the more affordable option of water piped from a utility instead of expensive and unreliable substitutions, this model also reduces costs and improves supply for users. This model will generate perpetual positive cash flow for utilities to pay back investors and make infrastructure investments.
Install 1,000 PAYGO systems to provide sustainable water access to 1,000 Kenyan households. Attract utilities and investors in Kenya and East Africa to sustainably connect 150,000 households by 2023.
