P4G drives investment in innovative business models in developing countries to pursue sustainable and inclusive growth
P4G provides catalytic funding to selected start-up and scale-up partnerships that have clearly articulated their business model that has potential to scale and replicate. This approach helps partnerships successfully launch their model, while reducing and mitigating the risk during the development process. Through partnership funding, P4G has systematically built a robust pipeline of partnerships since our launch in 2018. P4G works with partnerships to get them ready for institutional investment and achieving financial closure through the launch of financially sustainable businesses.
P4G partnerships play a unique role in bridging the gap between development and investment agendas to replicate and scale transformative models of impact. P4G seeks scale-up partnerships with at least 50 percent of co-funding by commercial partners. This ensures that the partnership has sufficient funding to successfully carry out their work and deliver meaningful change. We also encourage the participation of other investors, such as grant providers or impact investors.
P4G works with our partnerships to prepare their business models for investment readiness and pitch high performing investment-ready partnerships to financial institutions to cultivate interest and unlock investment opportunities. Through our impact-driven ecosystem, we have successfully engaged financial institutions like the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) and the Private Infrastructure Investment Group (PIDG)/InfraCo Africa to invest in promising partnerships. This approach creates the opportunities needed for our partnerships to replicate and scale their transformative models of impact. It helps them generate new markets and asset classes that attract investments from the private sector. It also sparks the development of global investment funds designed to deliver catalytic change.
P4G also holds investor sessions for progressive partnerships, where the partnership can share their investment memorandum and structure. P4G’s focused approach of unlocking investments for impact ultimately led to successful commercial launches by P4G partnerships Africa GreenCo and SSEZ/Sustainable Industrial Clusters.
