Mexico joined P4G as a country partner in 2018 and launched the P4G Mexican National Platform in May 2019 with the Mexican Minister of Economy and the Executive Director of UN Global Compact.
Mexico engages with innovative P4G partnerships to advance the nation’s green growth priorities in e-mobility, energy efficiency, circular economy and CARE economy. This engagement involves the private sector in sustainable issues and connects them with national policy, such as the National Plan for Electric Energy from the National Development Plan 2019-2024 and the National Strategy of Electric Mobility by SEMARNAT. This multi-stakeholder engagement happens through the P4G National Platform with collaborations between the Secretariat of Economy, the Consejo Coordinador Empresarial (Business Coordinating Counsel) and the Red Pacto Mundial México (United Nations Global Compact Mexico Network).
Mexico is actively involved in seven P4G partnerships.
Since the mid 1980s, Mexico has recognized air pollution as a major environmental and social concern. Mexico’s focus on energy efficiency and e-mobility partnership reflects their desire to minimize emissions for cleaner air. Prime examples of partnerships accelerating Mexico’s green growth priorities include Zero Emission Bus Rapid-deployment Accelerator (ZEBRA), which assisted Metrobus in working with the government to draft a new law that eliminated tariffs on the import of electric vehicles, and Clean Fleets, Clean Cities, which significantly reduced emissions from the full diesel truck fleets, building capacity to incorporate low-carbon technologies and zero emission systems.
The National Platform continues to support additional partnerships in line with their national priorities such as FLAWLESS partnership (and its predecessor, Comprometido con la Comida), which has launched a voluntary agreement in Mexico to accelerate commercially viable models for reducing food loss and waste (FLW) in line with the 2030 Agenda initiative. These integrated partnerships will help Mexico implement national policy and sustainability goals and spur local economic development nationwide.

P4G has been valuable in helping Mexico get closer to achieving its Sustainable Development Goals together with the private sector, particularly in the areas of electric mobility and food loss and waste, both of which are top priorities for us. We look forward to a continued collaboration with P4G curating new partnerships aligned with our national development and climate priorities, and accelerating these innovative solutions delivering impact on the ground.
